MagnaGuard
From the Star Wars: Battlefront Wikia.
The MagnaGuard is one of the special units of the CIS, and served as an officer class unit. They are usually tasked with protecting important figures within the CIS.
Some MagnaGuards, like those seen in Episode III, favour an electostaff, which can be used to engage a Jedi to some extent but offer litle protection against enemy infantry. Those seen in Battlefront II, however, were equipped with an array of weapons which made them, in many was, superior to infantry. One of these weapons was a Bulldog RLR, also known as a Bulldog Rocket Launching Rifle. A weapon similar in shape to the Battle Droids' Blaster Rifle, it could be locked on to targets to afford an reinsurance of killing moving targets that would otherwise have been more difficult to kill. It offered the MagnaGuards superiority against not only infantry, but also against structures, like turrets, and some lesser-armoured vehicles.
Magnaguards were also equipped with a Radiation Launcher, similar to those used by Droid Pilots in Battlefront I. This weapon launched a radiation mortar capable of instantly killing infantry and destroying small structures such as turrets.
As if this combination of weapons wasn't enough, MagnaGuards also carry Neuro poison canisters, which could render any biological units nearby dead in a number of seconds, and a Recon droid, similar to the Sith Dark Eye Probe Droid, used by Darth Maul in Episode I. These remote surveillance droids afforded the Magnaguards with reconnaissance which may just prevent them from being unexpectedly ambushed by the enemy. The recon droid was also equipped with a small blaster which could be used to provide some protection to the bot if an enemy is encountered.
[edit] Combat Efficiency
Of the officer classes, the CIS MagnaGuard is less favorable in terms of brute strength to the Republic's Clone Commander. The most contributing factor to this is the droid's glaring lack of ammo. The Bulldog RLR is powerful, but because it uses rockets, it is difficult to target an enemy at range since they travel slower than a blaster shot. To compensate, it has a high rate of fire for each clip of the recoilless rockets, but still too few rockets to be a truly effective weapon.
The radiation launcher is a good idea, but it lacks a maximum range desirable for its weapon class. In order to use it in combat, the MagnaGuard needs to be close to the battle but unseen, which is difficult to do in most maps. More often than not, when the droid fires the mortar, it will cost it its life in order to do anything to enemy troops.
Neuropoison is a buff that reduces enemy attacks, but again- this area of effect is small and therefore requires the MagnaGuard to get close to the enemy and will cost it its life to activate. The recon droid is useful, but players will find that its primary attack is too weak and its secondary self-destruction takes too long to be fully effective.
Conclusively, the MagnaGuard is too weak to stand alone in battle. From behind the scenes, its special attacks can be devastating, but this is definitely not the class that you want to have when making a last stand at a CP.
