Alright. This is going to take a while. You all remember the launch of Battlefront 2 in 2017. How disastrous it was. The loot box system and the progression system were a mess. The only multiplayer modes that were exciting were Galactic Assault and Heroes vs. Villains. Starfighter Assault was good, but not good enough to keep you playing. And Extraction was a carry over from the Outer Rim DLC from Battlefront 2015. The campaign was short and lackluster. Cliche. While everyone was trashing EA, many people were talking about how the original Battlefront 2, released in 2005, was better. They expressed their disappointment in DICE and EA for ruining the franchise. And I agree with them.
The game at launch was inferior to the original. However, now that we are in 2019, nearing 2020, and the game has been fixed and updated, is this statement still true? The loot his system was downgraded, the progression system was vastly improved and completely different from the old one. Geonosis, Capital Supremacy, Instant Action, Co -Op, General Grievous, Obi Wan, Anakin, and Dooku are here. Bugs have been fixed. New vehicles such as the IFT have been added. New reinforcements like the Republic Commando. Starfighter Assault has been left in the dust.
So, with all of this new content, is Battlefront 2 2017 better than Battlefront 2 2005? Now, I am going to include the DLC released on Xbox Live for the original Battlefront 2, which includes Kit Fisto, Assaji Ventress, Bespin, Rhen Var, and the addition of Hero Assault to some more maps.
Let's start with the original. The base game includes around 16 maps, with at least 3 modes, some having certain modes that others don't. There is a campaign that is pretty decent. The heroes are numerous and fun to play as, though they are overpowered. The space combat is fluid and the vehicles are enjoyable. The classes, with the exception of the demolitions trooper (the guy with the rocket launcher), are fun and have a role in the match. Galactic Conquest is rather ahead of its time, with a Risk-like galactic map in which you can deploy fleets, buy and use bonuses, purchase troops, and attack and defend planets.
The new game has a progression system that is simple, but requires intense micromanagement. The heroes are unique and have their own personalities that are portrayed accurately. Space combat is immersive but lackluster. The new modes, Co-OP and Instant Action, are very nice, while Capital Supremacy and Galactic Assault are a blast. The campaign is short and bland, but most people don't mind. The maps are beautiful and the gunplay is enticing. The game has come a long way. What do you guys think? Has the new game surpassed the old? Sorry for the long post.
